andy-jill-001Nothing you will read in this biography ever made headline news. It is not earth shattering or necessarily note-worthy. However, it is real! It is the stuff that life is made of and it is but one illustration of the stories we all have as we make our unique passage through life.

I was born in North Carolina as the only daughter of loving, Christian parents! Raised between two brothers, there was always fertile soil for adventures in relationship building and this journey has resulted in a deep and abiding love within the family. This solid foundation fostered by my parents consisted of a deep love and respect for God and for each other. It became a spring board for the places God would call me to live and work.

At the age of 12, I made the very personal decision to become a follower of Jesus and continued to pursue Him through involvement in my church, reading of the Bible, and a regular prayer life. This is not to say that I did not struggle in my obedience to what I was learning and had been taught because I certainly faced the same temptations as are common throughout the teen and young adult years. Furthermore, my adult years presented many a challenge to stray from the path I had chosen to follow. But, my heart’s desire never wavered!

I attended Florida Southern College and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I also met Andy McGaffigan, the man I married upon graduation. Andy had already embarked on a career in professional baseball and our first year of marriage began in Ohio, where Andy played AAA baseball for the Columbus Clippers, and ended with his major league debut in Yankee Stadium. This was an exciting time for us both but the lifestyle that resulted in 37 moves in 11 years absolutely shook the stability I was accustomed to in my life.

Each experience in life has provided an opportunity to grow in my faith and there have been times that I seized that occasion and others that I have not. Either way, God has patiently loved and nurtured me along the path of life. I lived through a particularly difficult time the year I was thirty because I was enjoying life so much, felt tremendously blessed, but believed my ability to evangelize was limited and my testimony was boring because it lacked “excitement”. I was appropriately scolded by an older, wiser Christian and was consequently invigorated in my relationship with my Heavenly Father as I learned that each of His children honestly does have a purpose for living out this life!Andy-Jill-006

In the years that followed that life altering time, I faced illness, trauma, the death of loved ones, extreme uncertainty, and intense times of emotional pain. Through it all, I have felt the love, comfort, joy, and peace that only a personal relationship with God can provide. The person I am today is a result of all of life’s experiences mixed with the choices I have made and sprinkled with the grace of a God who is intimately involved and honestly cares! Each day is a new adventure until I reach the end of life on this earth and begin anew in the presence of Almighty God, my Solid Rock, Redeemer, and Friend!

"So, then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."  Colossians 2:6-7
