Jill-4aTo run with abandon to my Heavenly Father is a question of will and not of circumstance. However, my circumstance may be the factor that forces me to determine my will. When I face a crisis or a crossroad, I must decide whether to turn to God for insight, direction, and purpose or to deal with life my own way. There is no in-between!

I have never known so many people who simultaneously are experiencing extreme uncertainty and despair. It seems all too common that a marriage is in deep distress, a serious health issue exists, a child becomes acutely rebellious, or a family is facing financial devastation! For those familiar with the Bible, the condition of the world should not be a huge surprise since we are clearly told that depravity and difficulty will only increase until Jesus returns. So where is our source of hope when life seems so bleak?

A marathon runner follows the course that is laid out but keeps the goal in mind so that when the way becomes arduous they do not lose sight of the purpose for the pain. In the same way, we must not be distracted by the hardships we face. We may instead choose to live in the present with our eyes on the only worthy aspiration, eternal life with Almighty God, and follow the ups and downs of life's path with a clear focus on the prize that awaits us.

The outcome of forward focus is blessing beyond measure as I learn the true meaning of the love, joy, and peace that comes from a loving God and never from the world! Oh, I may experience sensuality, happiness, or material security at my own hands but these are fleeting pleasures that will surely end at death, if not before. But, indescribable eternal treasures can be experienced now, in this moment, when I choose to put my relationship with Jesus Christ as the highest priority in life.

I choose to run to Him! Will you?

"...make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."  2 Peter 1: 5-8
